Lemon Yellow & Grey Gender Reveal

We met Mom-to-be Livia Pope back in April at the ISES Happy Hour, and in the six months we've known her, we've all become great friends! Who wouldn't want to be friends with such a bright, positive person?!
Livia has helped us on all four of our styled shoots with hair and make up (see her fab company www.alldolledupatx.com) so when she asked us to plan her Reveal Party, we were thrilled to help!
The initial instructions we were given were to use: yellow and grey, with stripes, but no chevron! “I have always loved the color yellow” Livia described. “It's a happy color and reminds me of sunshine and daisies. I am thrilled to be pregnant, and yellow is pretty gender neutral, so I chose that. I am not huge into green, and grey looks great with yellow. It was a done deal.” Lemons were also a must since they have been Livia's one real craving. From there, Kristi was able to pin away and come up with an amazing looking party. “I wanted
everything to be girly and pretty, because that's what Livia is! It was hard to choose some of the elements because I knew the gender ahead of time. I really wanted to choose things that wouldn't lean towards one gender or the other!”

While the décor looked great, the true standout of the event were the mimosas! Well, not
technically speaking, but they sure were a hit with our Brunch menu, which featured a
pancake bar as well as themed food. Kristi came up with the idea of presenting the banana
pudding in former baby jars with mini spoons. These looked great next to the fruit and yogurt
parfaits in acrylic wine glasses. Crumbs Gourmet Cookies also provided some yummy lemon sugar cookies!

The pancake bar was definitely a Must Have for Livia. “I really wanted the pancake bar, as it
is a unique idea and is perfect for brunch. I've had brunch parties (although not in a while and
breakfast items are always a hit). I loved having all the toppings provided: coconut, pecans,
chocolate chips, whipped cream, sprinkles, butterscotch chips, andes mint crumbles, crushed
peppermint candy, and fruit- bananas, blueberries, strawberries. I thought it was a fun way to
get guests to be interactive with their food and create something unusual- just like a
pregnancy craving.”

This party was DIY-centric to stay within budget, meaning Kristi became very crafty. “I spent
waaaay too much time trying to figure out the poppers,” Kristi explained. “I researched them
to death, only to find that most of them don't really "pop", so I bought some from Party City
and they popped like 3 inches out...then when I tried one after the reveal it worked amazingly,
so that part was really disheartening!! I honestly spent forever making the decoupage
"WELCOME" sign because it needed to be painted and then repainted and then cut, and then
glued and sealed. But I think they turned out cute!” Guests were also presented with grey bowtie pins and yellow hairbows to wear their "guess" as to what the gender would be.

Guests found out about the baby when we placed glitter in three black balloons for Livia, her
husband and step son to all pop individually. Spoiler alert: it's a girl! The glitter was bright pink
when we loaded them in the baloons, and I mean pink, pinker than the hair on Jem and the
Holograms! However, when they popped in the sunlight, it looked multicolored. Multicolored
like Rainbow Bright...somehow I can only relate colors currently to (amazing) cartoons of the
80s.

The Mommy to Be, however, saw the pink clear as day, which was a good thing since it had
been making her anxious for weeks leading up to the party. “I am a planner and tend to dislike
surprises unless I am the one giving them. I was anxious because my husband really wanted
a girl, (I did too but I thought it was a boy because I thought I saw blue streamers in a bag and
the Old Wives Tales), but I didn't want him to be disappointed. I became more anxious and
emotional as time wore on, and my guests were asking me what I thought the baby was.
Dang those pregnancy hormones!”
Once the gender was revealed, the custom bunting changed to reveal the words "Welcome Baby Girl"! Guests were then challanged to a "Baby Pope" Crossword Puzzle, a nod to the Daddy-to-be, as he spends his days as an Editor for the Austin Business Journal.

Designer and Mommy to Be were split over their favorite element of the event. Kristi loved the
customized “Baby Pope” confetti but loved the dessert display even more. “I'm not a
professional dessert-bar-maker” Kristi confessed. “So I was happy to see how well it was
received.”
Livia was partial not so much for the dessert bar iteself, but for the cake by Simon Lee
Bakery, which was a lemon cake with cream cheese filling.

Overall, the event left everyone feeling excited for Baby Girl Pope and full from cake, so they
obviously had a great time!
